One car … several options

The objective of Volks Engineering is to provide customers with a car that is safe, fast, looks good and has a finish that is testament to John Alder’s attention to detail. While it is possible to provide a car that has ‘cheaper’ components, it is not what the Rapier is about. No corners have been cut as far as the quality and workmanship of the vehicle, therefore the variation in the three available options is not great.

Please note: The basic chassis is exactly the same for every option, as is the rear suspension unit which is unique to Rapier and cannot be used on any other make of Formula Vee. None of the components of the car will ever be sold as individual units—this includes the body kit. All Rapier engine components are new (where possible). This includes crankcase, heads, carburetor, distributor, coil, tin ware, etc.

Rapier options are:
DELUXE
A top-shelf car has all the goodies including:

  • Adjustable steering column (up, down, in and out).
  • Adjustable seat.
  • Line-lock hand brake.
  • Quick release steering boss.
  • Momo steering wheel.
  • Six-point SRS race harness.
  • American Eagle alloy wheels.
  • Alloy-bodied bump and rebound adjustment AVO shock absorbers.
  • Ride height adjustable H-beam.
  • Carbon-fibre finished dash.
  • Data logger.
  • Stainless steel megaphone and ceramic-coated exhaust headers.
  • Stainless steel braid oil and breather lines with alloy anodised fittings.
  • Thermostatically-controlled fan on oil cooler.
  • Choice of body kit colour.

BASE MODEL
This option is still top shelf but with the following variations:

  • Non-adjustable steering column.
  • Non-adjustable seat.
  • No line-lock hand brake.
  • VDO analogue gauges instead of data logger.
  • Black high-temperature painted megaphone and exhaust headers.

ROLLING CHASSIS
This option offers the choice of Base Model or Deluxe minus the following:

  • Complete engine (head to head, carburettor and cooling system). A Rapier exhaust is part of the rolling chassis option. Please note: the Rapier chassis has been designed to suit the Volkswagen universal crankcase (eg. AS41 unit or equivalent).
  • Gearbox (rear axle tubings are part of the rear suspension unit therefore axle tubes, rear brakes, etc. will be provided).
